Creator: Peter Braun | Antiques & Collectibles - 2015-09

The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse.

Publisher: Abbeville Press

About this book
The must-have guide for the collector of mechanical wristwatches. Complete information--including prices--on over 1,400 models made by more than 130 international brands. The eighteenth edition of what has become a classic for afficionados of fine watchmaking once again looks at the developments in the watch industry. In addition to the A-to-Z section, which features many new entries, industry expert Elizabeth Doerr looks at news from the independent watchmakers. Watchmaker Bill Yao, owner of Mk II watches, contributes his expertise on crowns, and senior editor Marton Radkai explores the business side of the industry, the problem of counterfeiting, and profiles watchmaking’s mavericks. Also included are a glossary and a guide to watch maintenance. Wristwatch Annual 2016 presents a broad range of wristwatches with exquisite color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. Collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are a brief history of the brand (with contact information), and specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and variations. The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse. It is conceived as a handy reference for a broad readership from around the world, from the neophyte to the experienced collector.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

Creator: Ariel Adams | Antiques & Collectibles - 2014-09

The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum.

Publisher: ACC Distribution

About this book
More than a fashion accessory or means to tell the time, the wristwatch has become a statement of identity; politician or celebrity, scientist or sportsman, what you choose to wear on your wrist speaks volumes about who you are. The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum. Starting at a threshold price of about $200,000, it is a trip through the last decade or so of watches whose values soar incredibly to prices of $5 million dollars or more. Additionally, there is a selection of notable watches that yielded extremely high prices at auction - many of which are historically relevant. A stunning collection that is both informative and entertaining; with detailed descriptions of individual watches and articles that usefully deconstruct the price tag with an explanation of the relevance of craftsmanship and complexity of design, as well as the importance of exclusivity, prestige and collectibility. Prepare to be impressed by a larger-than-life-look at some relatively small items that command not only huge prices but kudos and respect, in all areas of a global society fascinated with using accessorizing to create identity.

4/5 E.C. (Green Oak, Michigan) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC143 Stainless Steel Solar Watch with Link Bracelet (Watch) The watch coloring is not as pictured. I purchased based off another reviewer here who said the picture was incorrect also and that the band was a deep black. It looks matte in the picture but it extremely glossy and more gunmetal with the accent color having a hint of gold. The glass is highly reflective which is not unusual at this price point but the face is difficult to read because of the reflection. It is a nice looking watch but difficult to read especially the numbering for the tachymeter. If the coloring was more representative of what is in the picture seems like it would be much easier to read.Pretty heavy but if you like a heavy watch not a bad thing., November 10, 2015

A little heavy but very sharp

4/5 THE Reviewer (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC143 Stainless Steel Solar Watch with Link Bracelet (Watch) These are a bit on the heavy size and come in around 5.82oz (with all links). For me, that's a little too much on the wrist. The dial is sharp with lots of dials and accents.I'm taking 1 star off because 1) the chronometer takes 0.5 seconds to reset back to 0 secs. When you're timing laps this is a huge pain.2) I wish the date dial had a magnification. This isn't a cheap watch, so I don't know why it was included.Band is 20mm wide;Case diameter + crown: 46.8mm wide (looks good on most mens hands)Case thickness: 12mmWeight: 5.82oz (Slightly heavy, even for stainless steel.)Overall it's a nice design although a little cluttered., September 16, 2016

Amazing watch at a great price

5/5 Marcus - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC143 Stainless Steel Solar Watch with Link Bracelet (Watch) As a beginning watch collector, I decided this would be a great center piece to my collection. I couldn't be any happier with this watch. It is a little darker than in the picture kind of resembles a shiny gun metal, which is exactly what I was looking for. Very light weight solid time piece i have had almost 2 months now and I have not had to change the time yet. Very accurate chronograph feature. Great watch for those looking for a quality piece. Good Automatic Watch

The Amazon photo does not do this watch justice. This is a very good looking watch.I've never been very gentle with my watches, I put a watch on, and it stays on my wrist until it breaks or needs a new battery. In the case of this watch, I figure that a watch that is rated as safe to 90 feet, should be able to stand up to a shower in Phoenix. The watch only lost about a minute and a half a month, which is fine by me, I'm not using it to time track and field.I ordered this watch about two months ago, and received it within ten days from a company named MR Watch. The watch came without owners manual and warranty forms. When I contacted Mr Watch I was directed to Seiko's website for info on the watch, but they didn't address the warranty issue.Because I didn't have an owners manual, I was on my own trying to remove links from the band. This watch band IS NOT the same band you will find on most other Seiko watches. Because I needed to remove... 4/5 d wayne - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good, solid watch at a decent price

It's a Seiko. That means a quality watch that keeps time and is rugged enough for everyday use. My last one went 7 years (worn daily) until it took an unexpected hard knock. Hard enough to bruise my wrist, so it's not like the watch can't stand up to normal bumps. I probably could have gotten it repaired, but decided I wanted a new one. There are lots of different brands and models of watches, but the trusty 5 series is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Since there are so many styles to choose from, you can find one that suits you. The self winding function means never having to buy a battery, as long as you wear it often enough to keep it going. I find it lasts at least long enough that if I take it off at night it's still running the next day, so it has never been a problem. The newer clasp is nice. It doesn't come undone accidently. I wish my old one had been that way; it might be still working ifs it did. Still comes off when you want it... 4/5 Roger - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great looking watch

4/5 Ron - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE325 Dress Solar Black Stainless Steel Watch (Watch) Great looking watch, looks much more expensive than it actually is. The picture that's being used isn't that accurate color wise, its a much darker black.ProsGreat looking/classy designKeeps accurate time so farSolar powered so it shouldn't need a battery for a long timeStainless SteelFits my smallish wrists (~6"), was easily able to adjust the band and I took off 6 links and fits perfectly, nice and snug.Good water resistance, 100m, suitable for recreational swimming/snorkeling but NOT for diving.ConsFirst link closest to the 12 and 6 doesn't move all too much so it wears a little bigger because of it.No luminescence so its tough to read in low/no light.Might be difficult to find a replacement band if you want to change the look up but I don't know yet since I haven't taken the band off.Because its black ion plated, could wear off later., February 7, 2016

Great watch at an appropriate price!

No reviews on this watch so I bought it blind. Just thought I'd post my review so at least you guys have something to go off of.Retails for $275.00 and I bought it for $206.00.The watch looks great, much better than the picture, but it is priced appropriately.I love the hardlex crystal that Seiko uses for most of their watches, but this one seems to say that it's mineral glass instead. Hardlex crystal seems clearer and more glare resistant than mineral glass.I haven't really scratched or break any of my watches so I can't say how durable hardlex crystal is.The stainless steel band is quite nice as well. It has a shine to it so it definitely is an eye catcher, but it is NOT polished and therefore NOT super shiny. This is great because it hides fingerprints very well and completely hides scratches. Polished bands are nice too but they get smudgy very easily and scratches are quite visible on them. Only the parts in the center of the... 5/5 Btphan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
