Wristwatch Annual 2016, The Catalog of Producers, Prices, Models, and Specifications

Creator: Peter Braun | Antiques & Collectibles - 2015-09

The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse.

Publisher: Abbeville Press

About this book
The must-have guide for the collector of mechanical wristwatches. Complete information--including prices--on over 1,400 models made by more than 130 international brands. The eighteenth edition of what has become a classic for afficionados of fine watchmaking once again looks at the developments in the watch industry. In addition to the A-to-Z section, which features many new entries, industry expert Elizabeth Doerr looks at news from the independent watchmakers. Watchmaker Bill Yao, owner of Mk II watches, contributes his expertise on crowns, and senior editor Marton Radkai explores the business side of the industry, the problem of counterfeiting, and profiles watchmaking’s mavericks. Also included are a glossary and a guide to watch maintenance. Wristwatch Annual 2016 presents a broad range of wristwatches with exquisite color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. Collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are a brief history of the brand (with contact information), and specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and variations. The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse. It is conceived as a handy reference for a broad readership from around the world, from the neophyte to the experienced collector.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

Creator: Ariel Adams | Antiques & Collectibles - 2014-09

The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum.

Publisher: ACC Distribution

About this book
More than a fashion accessory or means to tell the time, the wristwatch has become a statement of identity; politician or celebrity, scientist or sportsman, what you choose to wear on your wrist speaks volumes about who you are. The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum. Starting at a threshold price of about $200,000, it is a trip through the last decade or so of watches whose values soar incredibly to prices of $5 million dollars or more. Additionally, there is a selection of notable watches that yielded extremely high prices at auction - many of which are historically relevant. A stunning collection that is both informative and entertaining; with detailed descriptions of individual watches and articles that usefully deconstruct the price tag with an explanation of the relevance of craftsmanship and complexity of design, as well as the importance of exclusivity, prestige and collectibility. Prepare to be impressed by a larger-than-life-look at some relatively small items that command not only huge prices but kudos and respect, in all areas of a global society fascinated with using accessorizing to create identity.

    Awesomeness!!

5/5 Marlon Shirley - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNKK52 Seiko 5 Automatic Gold-Tone Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch) This watch looks gooood, very good. My mouth dropped when i saw it in person, i was like ooouuuuu weeeeee.. From a distance the face actually looks bigger. I guess that's a shine affect cause it does shine. Had to resize to fit perfect but for me that's all steel brace watches. For the type of links in the watch I had trouble resizing it but watch this YouTube video for help..Very simple http://youtu.be/NfxCJp9HyjM Will shop from buyer again. Looks great for men or women!

4/5 dedG - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNKK52 Seiko 5 Automatic Gold-Tone Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch) A nice clean watch. The plating is even and matching across the case, bezzel and band. The clear case back is also a nice touch. Its still the break in period so I cannot comment on accuracy.I much better watch then those low quality quartz Michael Kors watches floating around. This watch is the same size with a much higher build quality and plating that is unlikely to flake off. Not to mention it has an automatic movement. I gave this to my GF and she loved it. She let me eat like a slob for the rest of the week. Its a good buy! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 19, 2014

    Same Watch, Different Seller

P.S. I still like it a year later on may 22, 2014.Intial thoughts on receipt May 29, 2013:This watch met my high expectations and came in three working days. It was the only one left by Seller Watchsavings although a card in the nice Seiko box says jomashop.com. It was wrapped around a satin pillow in a hard Seiko box surrounded by bubblewrap inside a larger box, and came by USPS. Plastic was wrapped around part of the clasp. No plastic film was necessary on the crystal because it couldn't touch anything.I paid $80 including Free Super Saver Shipping, about the same price asked by this seller at $85 with free shipping. It keeps very good time. You can't wind it by turning the stem, and it doesn't have a hacking movement (can't stop second hand when crown pulled out) - neither a big deal. The instruction booklet states, "After being worn for 12 hours, your automatic movement has an average reserve life span of 38 hours before it will... 5/5 Andy San Diego (San Diego) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pilot approved.

I'm a pilot, and I love this watch. The white numbers on a black watch face/bezel with red accents really makes this watch stand out. The E6B bezel rotates smoothly, but firmly and does not move easily once set (good thing). The numbers are small, but they are clearly legible due to the fact that they contrast nicely against the black face. This makes calculating Dist./Time/Fuel burn calculations quick and easy. This watch is very well made and looks/feels more expensive than $200. The chronograph is accurate and responsive and ticks about five times a second which makes it look like it's counting smoothly, as opposed to having it tick every second. The actual watch face is depressed into the watch and is lower than the hands, as well as the inner and outer bezel rings. It looks great. The setup was simple and the instructions were clear. I had to charge the watch out of the package, but after a day in the sun, it was ready to go and I have not seen the low... 5/5 Junstar - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Seiko hit the target with this model for me. 5 stars all the way...

I begin this review with my personal preference for a watch as a reflection of why I purchased this particular watch. The watch has to be subtle (not flashy like LOOK-AT-ME! ARE YOU LOOKING?), is consistent with timekeeping, has chronograph functions, displays some form of contrasting color scheme for my visual perception, and affordable (under $250) with the features it can offer. This watch met my preference.Absolutely a great watch for both everyday wear and special-night-out wear. The design of the watch is very strikingly masculine yet subtle, unlike the flashy watches with huge faces nowadays. I'm glad the affordable brands such as Seiko, Citizen, Timex, and Casio are still following the traditional route and not too caught up with extreme fashion trends.Functionality, this watch is very versatile as it has ways to help you calculate and estimate measurements such as basic math to unit conversions. (That is all I have tried so far, although I know there... 5/5 Kingston - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A great watch meeting all expectations

I've had this watch for about a month now and love it. It is my everyday casusal watch.Upon recieiving it, I found it to be easy to set and get started. I let it sit in the sun for about an hour before I started using it and have had no problems. As a prior reviewer has stated, the red markings on the rotating bezel are almost impossible to see and use, but they look nice. I can use them only when wearing reading glasses - a younger person may have less of a problem. I have had no issues with the stem coming out and stopping the watch, as another reviewer has pointed out. The stem seems to stay where you you put it.The stopwatch uses a red sweep hand which is highly visible and works very well. I do not use the alarm, but the alarm dial can be used as an alternate time zone clock which is very useful. Finally, this is very much a man's watch. It has a larger dial and feels heavier on the wrist that it actually is. My normal Seiko dress watch (a very... 5/5 Amazon Customer (Raleigh, NC) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
