Creator: Peter Braun | Antiques & Collectibles - 2015-09

The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse.

Publisher: Abbeville Press

About this book
The must-have guide for the collector of mechanical wristwatches. Complete information--including prices--on over 1,400 models made by more than 130 international brands. The eighteenth edition of what has become a classic for afficionados of fine watchmaking once again looks at the developments in the watch industry. In addition to the A-to-Z section, which features many new entries, industry expert Elizabeth Doerr looks at news from the independent watchmakers. Watchmaker Bill Yao, owner of Mk II watches, contributes his expertise on crowns, and senior editor Marton Radkai explores the business side of the industry, the problem of counterfeiting, and profiles watchmaking’s mavericks. Also included are a glossary and a guide to watch maintenance. Wristwatch Annual 2016 presents a broad range of wristwatches with exquisite color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. Collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are a brief history of the brand (with contact information), and specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and variations. The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse. It is conceived as a handy reference for a broad readership from around the world, from the neophyte to the experienced collector.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

Creator: Ariel Adams | Antiques & Collectibles - 2014-09

The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum.

Publisher: ACC Distribution

About this book
More than a fashion accessory or means to tell the time, the wristwatch has become a statement of identity; politician or celebrity, scientist or sportsman, what you choose to wear on your wrist speaks volumes about who you are. The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum. Starting at a threshold price of about $200,000, it is a trip through the last decade or so of watches whose values soar incredibly to prices of $5 million dollars or more. Additionally, there is a selection of notable watches that yielded extremely high prices at auction - many of which are historically relevant. A stunning collection that is both informative and entertaining; with detailed descriptions of individual watches and articles that usefully deconstruct the price tag with an explanation of the relevance of craftsmanship and complexity of design, as well as the importance of exclusivity, prestige and collectibility. Prepare to be impressed by a larger-than-life-look at some relatively small items that command not only huge prices but kudos and respect, in all areas of a global society fascinated with using accessorizing to create identity.

    Great watch!

I love the solar charging aspect of it so I don't have to change batteries, and the watch itself looks amazing and extremely classy. But there are a few downsides:1. The link edges that touch the skin are a bit sharp so the first few days I was constantly itching, and I don't have the band tight either. I guess the skin will get used to it.2. The color in the center of the links is black, not dark gray like in the photo, and unless you are in bright daylight, the watch looks black. Fine for some, but if you are looking for a gray/dark gray watch, this is not it. It's way darker in real life than in the picture.3. The second hand that goes around the dial like in other watches is instead a stopwatch, so it just sits there at the 12 o'clock position, while the actual second hand is the tiny dial on the left at the 9 o'clock position. I would have liked if it would function instead as a stopwatch when needed, and as a second hand the rest of the time... 4/5 Mike Wazowski - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Exceptional

5/5 Country Boy - See all my reviews This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC143 Stainless Steel Solar Watch with Link Bracelet (Watch) Seiko makes great watches. My wife bought me this for our anniversary and I can't say enough about it. It is very classy and I like the solar feature. It is a nice looking watch, and I rely on it heavily in my profession (timeliness is important, no time to look at a clock/cell phone). I'm a pharmacist and always need to know what time it is, what date it is, etc. Medication administration times are important, too.I have an older Seiko I received as a gift 10 years ago that still keeps exceptional time. It is accurate to about 15 seconds per month (still). It is showing some wear and tear as I wore it every day for those 10 years. It's on its third battery. These things will last a lifetime with proper care. Bravo to Seiko! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 4, 2013

    Great surprise!

5/5 Andre - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC143 Stainless Steel Solar Watch with Link Bracelet (Watch) I was not looking for a Seiko watch as this brand always reminded old fashioned watches. Like the one my grandfather would buy.Got really attracted to this one and also found many others beautiful as well. After reading that Japanese movement is good as the Swiss ones decided to go for this $200 solar watch. It is very beautiful and looks a more expensive watch.Battery is charged by any type of light, not only sun's.Maybe because its different gray color it captures more attention than my white Tag Heuer. It's not as heavier as the Tag, but it still has a good weight. The Hardlex window looks as good as the Saphire crystal from more sophisticated pieces.
