Creator: Peter Braun | Antiques & Collectibles - 2015-09

The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse.

Publisher: Abbeville Press

About this book
The must-have guide for the collector of mechanical wristwatches. Complete information--including prices--on over 1,400 models made by more than 130 international brands. The eighteenth edition of what has become a classic for afficionados of fine watchmaking once again looks at the developments in the watch industry. In addition to the A-to-Z section, which features many new entries, industry expert Elizabeth Doerr looks at news from the independent watchmakers. Watchmaker Bill Yao, owner of Mk II watches, contributes his expertise on crowns, and senior editor Marton Radkai explores the business side of the industry, the problem of counterfeiting, and profiles watchmaking’s mavericks. Also included are a glossary and a guide to watch maintenance. Wristwatch Annual 2016 presents a broad range of wristwatches with exquisite color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. Collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are a brief history of the brand (with contact information), and specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and variations. The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse. It is conceived as a handy reference for a broad readership from around the world, from the neophyte to the experienced collector.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

Creator: Ariel Adams | Antiques & Collectibles - 2014-09

The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum.

Publisher: ACC Distribution

About this book
More than a fashion accessory or means to tell the time, the wristwatch has become a statement of identity; politician or celebrity, scientist or sportsman, what you choose to wear on your wrist speaks volumes about who you are. The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum. Starting at a threshold price of about $200,000, it is a trip through the last decade or so of watches whose values soar incredibly to prices of $5 million dollars or more. Additionally, there is a selection of notable watches that yielded extremely high prices at auction - many of which are historically relevant. A stunning collection that is both informative and entertaining; with detailed descriptions of individual watches and articles that usefully deconstruct the price tag with an explanation of the relevance of craftsmanship and complexity of design, as well as the importance of exclusivity, prestige and collectibility. Prepare to be impressed by a larger-than-life-look at some relatively small items that command not only huge prices but kudos and respect, in all areas of a global society fascinated with using accessorizing to create identity.

A watch with soul for an unbeatable price!

When I was shopping for a replacement for my Citizen, a buddy of mine pointed me in the direction of these Seiko 5's, telling me that automatic watches have "soul." I'm a classic-car guy, so I understood that "soul" in this context means that they're analog in the classic sense; they are imperfect, complex assemblages of mechanical parts that somehow transcend the basic functionality of the device, which, ironically, they can't perform quite as well as a modern digital version. Instead of a battery, this (and all automatic watches) has a spring that's wound by a weight that swings around as your arm moves, which you can see in action through the sweet clear back. Well, I can't resist a bit of soul on my wrist, and it didn't hurt that this was 1/4 the price of the ecodrive Citizen I was considering, so I figured what the heck - I'd give old-fashioned a try (works for shaving too, but don't let me get sidetracked down that path...).I've owned the watch for about two... 4/5 J. This One I Decided to Keep

Even though there were some negative points made about it, (Someone said it looses a minute a week or something? But hey: I went without ANY watch for about a week until this one arrived.) All-in-all, this was the watch I decided to keep. OK, so I've only had it a few weeks, and the warranty is from a European vendor, but hey: What's life without risk? What I really like so far is the look and feel of this watch. The day and date both read clearly. The blue face is very handsome and somewhat unusual. The sweep second hand moves in an almost smooth motion. It's really fun to look at without being ridiculously flashy. It's not cluttered with those secondary and tertiary timing devices for whatever use I have no Idea. I really can't figure out why there's the color accent on the first twenty minutes. Maybe that's intended to be a conversation starter. When he asked me about it, I told my son, "Yo. When I become a Navy SEAL, I'll have to hold my breath underwater for... 5/5 James A. Awesome watch!

5/5 Dan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNKK27 Seiko 5 Stainless Steel Automatic Watch (Watch) Awesome design ,good functionality, very comfortable bracelet, unbeatable value.Actually it doesn't say on a dial Made in Japan as pictured on Amazon, the back case signed Malaysia movement.I had to remove 2 links,so the option were:1) Go to Watch repair shop and pay $10 and $20 if it is in Beverrly Hills.2)Purchase link remover kit here on Amazon for $4.3)Try to do it on my own. This watch comes with the bracelet that can be adjusted with small flat screwdriver and 2 small nails ,took me 10 min and it was good ,go to Youtube -watch few videos and you will be fine. The watch came with the blue Seiko box and unstamped warranty card. How I learned to love this watch

I bought this watch for a snorkeling trip to Key West this past summer as my two other german/swiss watches weren't designed for water sports and I wanted a watch for wet conditions. When I got the watch, my first impression was "wow, this watch is big and heavy." It might drag me down to a watery grave. It's also not really my style as I prefer simpler, less flashy designs and pilot style watches. I still do, but I kept the watch and fell in love with it on my trip. Very quickly, I came to appreciate the quality and design and build. The finish is truly beautiful. The hands, dial, and indices are precise and easiy to read at a glance, as a watch should be, under water as well. I don't think the crystal has anti reflective coating, but it looks like it does, offering similar clarity that rivals more expensive sapphire. The luminous paint on the hands and dial is not as bright or long lasting as are newer compounds like superluminova (strontium aluminate), but it's adequate... 5/5 Lewis - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Versitile and Classic Dive Watch!

5/5 joshgrami - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SSC017 Prospex Analog Japanese Quartz Solar Stainless Steel Dive Watch (Watch) I absolutely love this watch! It feels well-crafted and has some heft to it. The markings on the face and bezel are perfect, with no mistakes or flaws made during production. The unidirectional bezel "clicks" nicely as you rotate it, and doesn't get moved as easily as some of my other diver watches. This watch looks good with a hooded sweatshirt and jeans, linen shirt, or a suit. It's a very versatile timepiece, and I would recommend it!, November 12, 2016
