About this book
The must-have guide for the collector of mechanical wristwatches. Complete information--including prices--on over 1,400 models made by more than 130 international brands. The eighteenth edition of what has become a classic for afficionados of fine watchmaking once again looks at the developments in the watch industry. In addition to the A-to-Z section, which features many new entries, industry expert Elizabeth Doerr looks at news from the independent watchmakers. Watchmaker Bill Yao, owner of Mk II watches, contributes his expertise on crowns, and senior editor Marton Radkai explores the business side of the industry, the problem of counterfeiting, and profiles watchmaking’s mavericks. Also included are a glossary and a guide to watch maintenance. Wristwatch Annual 2016 presents a broad range of wristwatches with exquisite color photographs and complete specifications for each watch. Collectors have a wealth of information close at hand: the book is arranged alphabetically by producer, and within each producer’s section are a brief history of the brand (with contact information), and specifications and materials for each watch, including price, movement, special features, complications, case, dial, band, and variations. The clear photography, structured layout, and lively writing make this book a pleasure to read or just browse. It is conceived as a handy reference for a broad readership from around the world, from the neophyte to the experienced collector.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

Creator: Ariel Adams | Antiques & Collectibles - 2014-09

The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum.

Publisher: ACC Distribution

About this book
More than a fashion accessory or means to tell the time, the wristwatch has become a statement of identity; politician or celebrity, scientist or sportsman, what you choose to wear on your wrist speaks volumes about who you are. The World's Most Expensive Watches presents some of the most extravagant, intricate, collectible, decadent, or just plain interesting modern-day timepieces that sit at the top of the price spectrum. Starting at a threshold price of about $200,000, it is a trip through the last decade or so of watches whose values soar incredibly to prices of $5 million dollars or more. Additionally, there is a selection of notable watches that yielded extremely high prices at auction - many of which are historically relevant. A stunning collection that is both informative and entertaining; with detailed descriptions of individual watches and articles that usefully deconstruct the price tag with an explanation of the relevance of craftsmanship and complexity of design, as well as the importance of exclusivity, prestige and collectibility. Prepare to be impressed by a larger-than-life-look at some relatively small items that command not only huge prices but kudos and respect, in all areas of a global society fascinated with using accessorizing to create identity.

Great gift for anyone or your self. Classy Seiko.

5/5 Pathik - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE039 Stainless Steel Solar Watch (Watch) Got this for my dad as a christmas gift, very pretty looking watch, shiny and clean look. The dial is great with its grooves, and the lume is bright but just does not last very long. Solar is good and seiko is a great company, their solar watches are usually efficeient to the point that 8 minutes of direct light can power the watch for up to a year in total darkness. It has a nice feel and professional look to it, sometimes i take it so i can wear it. Pins were easy to push out to adjust size. Very comfortable. Very, Very nice.

I've owned some pretty nice watches in the past, such as Longines, Tag Heuer, Grand Seiko, and Hamilton, among others...and I recently sold all of them and bought this one watch to replace them all. I just woke up one day and realized that there's more to life than collecting watches and there's really no reason to have anything nicer than this watch. There really isn't much to dislike about this watch. It's a handsome, basic dress/casual watch that could look okay with a suit or a t-shirt. In essence, it's just a basic watch that will go with most anything. It has foldover end links, and the band is a little rattly, but it's very nice for the price and worlds above a similarly priced Seiko 5. The dial has a sunburst pattern that reflects a lot of light, and the markers are very reflective as well. From ten feet away, it looks a lot like a Grand Seiko. The case is a classically sized 37mm, which bucks the current trend of huge fashion watches, so it shouldn't go out of... 5/5 thethingsyouown...tendtoownyou - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Equal Opportunity Watch! Great Watch for Lady who likes BOLD jewelry!

5/5 Main Line Mama (Wayne PA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE032 Two-Tone Stainless Steel Solar Watch (Watch) Fabulous Watch. I am very selective about any accessory I wear all the time! I love mixed metal watches for the versatility! This watch with a white face and great display for the day and date is so easy to read. I can check the time so discreetly! The fact that this is solar powered is so wonderful. I took this watch to my watch guy to adjust the band and it was great to know that I am not going back for a new battery! Seiko watches have always been dependable. Wonderful gift from husband who is a watch guru!, June 22, 2015

Beautiful watch, elegant in its simplicity

5/5 dharmaraja (Omaha, NE United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE032 Two-Tone Stainless Steel Solar Watch (Watch) Beautiful watch, elegant in its simplicity. Cannot praise it too highly. Love the two tone color-scheme, which makes this watch look luxurious. I have had it for several years, but : a) it has never needed to be recharged (by exposure to extra light), and b) the "scratch-resistant" watchface has indeed remained pristine. It gives me just what I need , the time and the date—thank Heaven it does not have a bunch of other buttons and dials to gratuitously add to the complexity of my existence, or multiply the chances for a breakdown. Brillinant timepiece, but not really luminous

4/5 Roger Hamner - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE032 Two-Tone Stainless Steel Solar Watch (Watch) I was going to return this item, but then changed my mind. The problem was that the watch is not luminous, even though the details say it is. Seiko's 'lumibright' technology only works if you expose the watch to strong light before you expect it to become luminous (and who does that before going to bed at night?). But the watch otherwise is brilliant - clear, simple and elegant. So I decided that its non-luminous feature is no real reason for its return. I did have to reduce the bracelet length by one link, but better too big than too small, so no real issue. I look forward to many years of use with no need to wonder when the battery is going to run out. In summary then. If you want a solar-powered watch that is elegant and clear to see, then this is a good choice, especially at the price. Love this watch! But BEWARE the dial does not look blue as in the photos!

Only Con: The Dial is such a dark blue color that you can only see the blueness if you tilt the watch in a certain angle in a certain light. Otherwise, the dial looks black. I bought the blue dial version because I already has a Tag Aquaracer and Rolex in black dial and I wanted a watch with Blue dial. I was so disappointed with the dial color when I received the watch from Amazon, but I am not the type who returns something on Amazon. Now, I am glad I kept the watch.Pro: This is a great watch. It is extremely light weight. I had this watch for 6 months now, and it is my daily work watch. Not a scratch on the watch (band nor dial). I love the Day Date feature on this watch. Not too many watches that I was interested has the Day Date feature, unless you want to pay over 10K for them. Subsequently after this purchase, I bought an Omega Seamaster James Bond watch with the blue dial because I wanted a watch with true blue dial. The Omega Seamaster is much more sportier... 4/5 AAC - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
